Prior to 2004 it had been agreed that paid guest spots would be cancelled, and that the club would open once a month and only for singers nights. jiva agreed to organise the first couple of nights as part of a 'shared' workload with other residents taking turns to be 'in charge'. After March it was suggested they carry on doing it all, and so they did.
Attendance at the club had diminished almost to the point of extinction, so top priority was to encourage new performers and audience - an online survey and paper questionnaires and suggestions slips at the club provided input. The major change was the introduction of a No Smoking Policy at the club - a move which upset some of the few longstanding members but was applauded by many performers and audience who returned to the club after the policy was instituted.
With increasing attendance there were many requests for more nights - and a second night each month was added. The club exists to provide a platform where non-professionals can perform, and where the audience can see a variety of local talent. The extra night is an opportunity for a regular visitor/member to have a longer spot - so, from October, the 3rd Thursday of each month became a 'Spotlight' Night.
