The postman's no letter, I thought I might get a
Reply 'cos one's long overdue
And I fondly remember a year last September
Our Yorkshire romance for two
We met at a garden fete somewhere near Harrogate
I fell in love at first sight
A weekend in Ripley and an evening in Shipley
Everything seemed to be right
The weather was dull when we visited Hull
Which perhaps put a damper on things
So we pushed on to Brid and just wasted ten quid
On the sunshine the sand and the swings
We visited briefly your Auntie in Keighley
I didn't know what to say
And I laughed when you slipped on a banana skin in Skipton
Perhaps that's where things went astray
You handled me cleverly driving through Beverley
And you continued to wax
Most wisely and shyly through Guisely and Filey
Declining suggestions with tact
I feel such a fool for what happened in Goole
But believe me I did what I could
And I dare say your mother feels that day in Huddersfield
I didn't act as I should
You could not alas afford travelling to Castleford
Every weekend to me Mum's
Now you are singly residing in Bingley
Just taking life as it comes
The postman's no letter, I thought I might get a
Reply 'cos one's long overdue
And I fondly remember a year last September
Our Yorkshire romance for two
