There are many stories about
performers who died due to the excesses of drugs and drink, and others in car or
plane crashes. This song tells of a singer/songwriter whose singing was cut
short through exposure to smoke filled clubs and bars, and then too much alcohol
affected his ability to play.
A ban on smoking in public places
is inevitable, and no doubt there will be much controversy, bitterness and
heated debate. But, we can, and should, still celebrate the music and remember
the friendship that goes with it. Good songs transcend barriers and prejudice.
There are always new singers to carry forward the tunes and messages, and to add
their own. Let's give them our time and respect.
Some called him genius, some said he was mad
I never knew him but I wish that I had
With the smoking and his drinking and his head in the clouds
I can still hear him singing, saying out loud
Play me a tune and I'll buy you a beer
Tell me the story you want me to hear
Take one last look before your time ends
Remember the music, remember the friends
He no longer sings or plays his guitar
He lost his voice to the smoke in the bar
Too many whiskeys, too many beers
He couldn't stop the shaking, couldn't stop the tears
Play me a tune and I'll buy you a beer
Tell me the story you want me to hear
Take one last look before your time ends
Remember the music, remember the friends
Time has moved on, some things have changed
The singers are different now, the song is the same
Sing one last chorus together as friends
Remember the music, it never ends
Play me a tune and I'll buy you a beer
Tell me the story you want me to hear
Take one last look before your time ends
Remember the music, remember the friends
Play me a tune and I'll buy you a beer
Tell me the story you want me to hear
Take one last look before your time ends
Remember the music, remember the friends...
Remember the music, remember the friends...
Remember the music...
