Ewen died in October 2010 - he is sadly missed by family, fans and friends.
We'd met Ewen and seen him play several times but had never quite got around to learning any of his songs - but, being invited to play at a tribute concert gave us the last little push that we needed. We liked this gentle and thoughtful song from the first time we heard it - and it was always a favourite at folk clubs where Ewen appeared. The song is on his 'One Red Shoe' album.

A shortage of teachers sometimes required
The services of one who had retired
As German tuition was what we desired
Bring back Mr Anderson
Some older boys who had known him before
Told us he'd been gassed in The Great War
Just a wait a few minutes, and he'll start to snore
That's old Mr Anderson
'Ich stehe auf der Strasse' is all I recall
Chalk on the blackboard, noise in the hall
And the wonder of it was you slept through it all
Sweet dreams, Mr Anderson
Just wait till the book slips out of his hand
To bring out the comics, the rubber bands
May be he's back fighting in foreign lands
Young Mr Anderson
Back with the ladies who asked him to dance
Or with his comrades who had to advance
And never returned from the green fields of France
With you, Mr Anderson
'Ich stehe auf der Strasse' is all I recall
Chalk on the blackboard, noise in the hall
And the wonder of it was you slept through it all
Sweet dreams, Mr Anderson
Sweet dreams, Mr Anderson
