'... memories are fading
with the years'

In association with MIND Active we give a 1 hour performance every month to care homes in our local area. We enjoy these regular visits, as do the residents. While they might not be the liveliest of audiences, the people we have met are respectful and appreciative and have a wealth of things to relate about their lives.

This song is about the slow daily routine, the dignity, and the inevitable sadness that we have been privileged to share. The title comes from the way chairs always seem to be arranged in the day room lounges.

Jimmy and Val

Chairs around the room, backs against the wall
Trying to remember, trying to recall
Family they knew, wishing they would call
Memories are fading with the years

Trevor likes to watch Football on TV
Jane remembers dancing as she stares out at the sea
Michael doesn't know the reason why he's here
Memories are fading with the years

Isn't it a shame, every day the same
Nothing ever changes around here
Chairs around the room, backs against the wall
Memories are fading with the years

David sits alone with his head in his hands
Everything is different, not like he had planned
Time has all gone, he's a broken lonely man
Memories are fading with the years

Isn't it a shame, every day the same
Nothing ever changes around here
Chairs around the room, backs against the wall
Memories are fading with the years

Turning of the seasons, phases of the moon
Nothing ever changes chairs around the room
Once they knew the song, now they're lost without the tune
Memories are fading with the years

Isn't it a shame, every day the same
Nothing ever changes around here
Chairs around the room, backs against the wall
Memories are fading with the years...

Memories are fading with the years...
Memories are fading with the years
