This is the poem Jimmy recited at Ashington Folk Club club on 1st September 2005. It chronicles what it's like at the club, and light-heartedly reminds us of some of the work that goes on... as the title says, 'unsung'.

Ashington Folk Club - Unsung

Wuh got there orly ti set up the gear
An carted it a'll from the car
Wuh struggled up stairs, moved tyebbles and chairs
As the young lass oppened the bar

Then oot from the cupboard wuh tuk oot more stuff
The speakers, the wires, the stands
The recorder, the mikes, and a'll such like
And plugged it a'll inta the amp

We checked it oot wi voice and guitar
"1, 2 ... Testing" and strummin'
"Dis that soond alreet? We hevn't got a'll neet,
Tha's loadsa folk said they'd be comin' "

At haff past eyt wuh wor ready ti start
Val annoonced the forst act
Then more piled in, a'll wantin' ti sing
And sudd'nly the Folk Bar wus packed

There wus country, and poetry, a capella and blues
Standards, traditional tunes
The mix was eclectic, a'll styles reflected
As music and words filled the room

Jimmy twiddled the knerbs an' recorded the torns
The camera flash lit up the scene
Then a beer break, a raffle, time for a natter
And start it a'll ower again

It got hotter and hotter as the neet wore on
Pity the last few performers
By the time they got on haff the audience had gone
From the Ashington Folk Club and Sauna

Wi finished off late, it wus gone twenty past
By the time the last song wus done
Then the lang final task - pack up, put it back
Tidy up, torn the leets off, gan yem

Back ti the car wi' guitars (unplayed)
An' yem ower tired for bed
A fortneet's rest? Aa think yi jest
Wuv still got to update the web

The photies, the words, the soondclips, the mail
The newsletter, sorvays, the lot
Some think that it's easy, and fun, just a breeze
Yi think it's a doddle? Wey it's not!
