All very friendly and
informal.
Lovely venue, cosy room with low
ceiling - adjacent separate bar. Shutters to bar and dining room can
be opened for more space if needed, the hotel owners like to listen if
they can!
There is smoking in the bar, but normally no one
smokes 'in the session'. |

John organises these
acoustic evenings maybe every two or three months, and they are
becoming established as part of the regular music events in the area.
John runs them along folk club lines in that he
decides the running order and MCs the night as well as performing too.
Solo performers get two songs each to start with, duos and bands can
expect maybe 15 minutes or so.
Bearing in mind that it's not a separate room,
and there is a bar in the room, and the room is open to all the club
members, and there's no admission charge, the audience are mostly
attentive to the performers - so a canny night is had by one and all. |

Premier North East
venue - large concert-sized room, stage at one end, bar at the other,
and PA is excellently handled by Ron Angus, the best sound engineer
we've ever heard. Instrumental session at
the back for half an hour or so before the residents take the stage
for a 30-40 minute spot, followed by first guest spot. After the
break, short spots from more regulars and the occasional song from a
visitor. Then the guest finishes the night.
If you want to hear great guests with brilliant
sound quality you'll love it, if you're looking for somewhere to do a
few songs as a floor singer you may be disappointed.
No smoking. |

Concert style venue,
supremely well organised - top of the bill and support acts booked
well in advance, so no opportunity for casual drop-in floor spots.
Friendly, appreciative and attentive audience plus
good MC and soundpersons, stage, lights... the whole thing. There's
usually a bar (closed while performers are actually on stage), and you
can bring your own snacks or purchase from the bar/shop.
All in all a great place, either as a booked
performer or paying audience member. |

A smashing club, held
in the local hall of this Northumberland village. Jack is heavily
involved in sharing music with the community as evidenced by the
variety of regulars of all ages that perform here. He runs the night
like a good old fashioned folk club where everyone is made welcome,
there's a good crop of club regulars and some interesting and talented
guests booked too! There's no bar, so you
have to remember to bring your own drinks. Sit back and enjoy. |

The back room has a
bar and a small, slightly raised stage area. PA provided.
Not a club setup - the emphasis is not on
quiet attention to performers, it's more a get up and have a go
while everyone chats and drinks and has a canny night. Music
varies from blues through to popular with a bit of country and even
the occasional folk classic thrown in.
Free drink tickets for each performer (1
drink per spot). Food laid on.

Upstairs room with
its own bar. Mostly guest nights with
occasional singers, musicians and listeners nights.
Wide range of styles and genres - everything
from traditional unaccompanied through to indie and contemporary
singer/songwriter material with jigs/reels and poetry too! Late
finish, so everyone gets the opportunity to have at least one or two
turns. |
