A tune we had written in 2005
kept coming back to haunt us. We wrote various sets of lyrics covering different
interpretations of the original core theme for the song. Two years later we
settled on the text set out below... but then decided the tune wasn't right for
it, and so abandoned the idea.
A few days later some idle guitar
twiddling between songs in rehearsal produced a chord sequence which suggested
'parting' words - and we married those chords to the abandoned lyrics!
It's a song of parting - a few
regrets, a lot of thanks and many memories of time spent together.

A fond farewell and “Mind how you go”
So many things to say
It seems but a moment since we said “Hello”
Soon we’ll be on our way
Thanks for the memory, and for the smile
Treasure the time that we shared
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
Remember the times we laughed till we cried
Remember the stories we’d tell
Remember the songs, remember the wine
I remember it only too well
Thanks for the memory, and for the smile
Treasure the time that we shared
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
A fond farewell and “Mind how you go”
Too many things to say
It seems but a moment since we said “Hello”
[and]
Soon we’ll be on our way
Thanks for the memory, and for the smile
Treasure the time that we shared
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
Thanks for the memory, and for the smile
Treasure the time that we shared
Some way down the road we’ll meet again
Who knows when who knows where
