A week-end in Paris with Allan Taylor? Read on... As part of the filming for a DVD about Allan and his life as a singer/songwriter he played a concert at La Pomme d'Eve in Paris on 16 July. jiva did the touristy things - visited The Pantheon, Notre Dame, walked along the banks of The Seine, Boulevard Saint Michael, Boulevard Saint Germain, sampled the street cafe food and wine... all of this in the sweltering heat. We we met up with Allan, the film crew and Gunter Pauler of Stockfisch records at the hotel which features in 'The Beat Hotel' - a song on his 'Hotels And Dreamers' CD. Then it was back to our hotel for a quick shower and change of clothes for the concert in the basement bar of a small club in the Latin Quarter. Following a smashing performance about a dozen of us had a meal in a local restaurant, after which Allan played for half an hour or so at the table. Great stuff! Then, as the clock rolled on to midnight we walked through the streets of Paris (Jimmy carrying Allan's guitar), dropping people off as they headed for their hotels. A final glass of wine at a corner street cafe, and then we strolled hand in hand back to our hotel, exhilarated... |
