18th October 2007

A fairly quiet night which gave our performers a chance for more than one turn for a change. No newcomers tonight but another first for Ashington... Derek Greenacre (blues guitarist) accompanying traditional unaccompanied singer Diane Green. Remember, you saw it at Ashington first!

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of the performers.

1 & 18
Starting the evening was Paul Allen who sang the Tom Waits song 'Downtown Train' and then a self-penned song 'Love Is'. For his second spot he ended the evening in fine style with another self-penned song called 'Don't Let A Day Go By' and then Dylan's 'Blind Willie McTell'.

Listen

2 & 9
A grand collection of tunes from Jim Slaughter this evening. In the first half he played 'I Only Have Eyes For You' and 'Beautiful Dreamer'. He ably kicked of the second half with two more, including 'Plaisir D'Amour'.

Good to see newcomer

A definite first for Val at Ashington this evening. We had been sent a poem (entitled 'Still') and were asked if it could be read out at the Club, the writer being too shy to read it themself.
