20th September 2007

We had a smashing extended set from Keith Jones tonight in which he treated us to songs of Jake Thackray, a few traditional songs, contemporary songs and a self-penned number too.

And eleven floor spots helped to make the whole evening a great success.

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of each performer, and...

Full song performed by Keith Jones

Peter Meek

5 Extended set
Keith Jones began his set with 'Brother Gorilla', a Jake Thackray song. Then it was the traditional 'He's Young But Daily Growin' and a humorous 'The Portuguese'. He followed this with a self-penned song 'Thoughts Of You' and then it was back to Thackray with 'On Again! On Again!' Next it was 'Fiddlers Green' followed by John Conolly's 'Punch & Judy Man' and the traditional 'The Maiden & The Soldier'. He finished off his set with the Pete Seeger classic 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone'. Thank you Keith.

He's been at it again - Jim Wigfield has been writing even more songs. Tonight he sang 'Hello New Wrinkle' and 'South Shields'.

Then a newcomer for Ashington - a visitor from Ely in Cambridgeshire. Andy Wall sang the beautiful Huw Williams song 'Rosemary's Sister' which had everyone joining in, and then 'Rollin' and Flowin' by American folklorist Dillon Bustin.

Derek Greenacre played a Booker White piece from the 'Sky Songs' album and a percussive piece called 'Future Blues' where he really whacked the bass string!

Rounding off another good night at Ashington was Mike Jessop who sang the Alan Hull song 'All Fall Down' and then Springsteen's 'Red Headed Woman'.
An extended set from Keith Jones, 11 floor spots, 31 songs and tunes and all for only £1 (remember, 'It's In The Bag').
