2nd August 2007

What a way to spend your birthday - driving the PA at Ashington Folk Club... there's dedication for you.

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of the performers.

Diane Green began with two 'come all ye' songs. First (about a besotted lover) was 'I Live Not Where I Love' and then, with a more cynical twist,  'Let No Man Steal Your Time'.

2
Harmonica player Jim Slaughter played two tunes. One was the Scottish song 'Oh Leafy Shade' which is based on Handel's 'Largo'.

Derek Greenacre played his own bluesy interpretation of 'Summertime' and then told us the story of 'The Coming Of The Griblets' (full of very strange made up words!).

Listen

4
First poem from
Ann Lunam-Cowan was her own 'Prozacaly' (her Rothbury Festival entry this year). She followed this with Les Barker's amusing 'Go Stay Fetch'.
5
With guitar tonight
Tony Hamblin sang 'Night Visiting Song' followed by 'The Flower Of Northumberland'.

Listen

6
Mike Jessop sang Steve Earle's 'Jerusalem' and the last song written by Alan Hull - 'Treat Me Kindly'. He rounded off his turn with 'Happy Birthday' especially for birthday boy, Jimmy. Thanks Mike.

Listen

8
Jack Hakin sang Marti Robbins' 'They're Hanging Me Tonight' and then 'She Taught Me How To Yodel' which had the whole room joining in!

Listen

Three songs tonight from Dave Anderson. He began with John Denver's 'Looking Everywhere - Going Nowhere' and then sang Mike Silver's 'Fragile Peace'. He finished with the beautiful self-penned 'Take A Little Time'.

Chris Riley also did three numbers.  First was the classic guitar instrumental, 'Angie' - and then he sang Bob Dylan's 'Hey Mr. Tambourine'. He ended his turn with another instrumental piece.

Finishing off the night, Ben Yeowart was in fine form with two Syd Barrett songs - 'It's Obvious' and 'Fishes'. He closed with 'Plastic Jesus', an American song which had everyone laughing.
