1st February 2007

First night of the 2007 season... It was fairly quiet but, good and varied entertainment all the same.

Also, we were treated to an extended set from Jo and Jon (of Caliko) - they went down very well and were enjoyed by all.

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of each performer, and...

Full song performed by Jo and John

Getting proceedings underway and,
fresh from seeing Tom Paxton at The Sage, Geoff Pickard began with a Paxton song 'Ramblin Boy' and then sang 'Calico Printers Clerk'.

Next was Jack Hakin who both whistled and yodelled this evening! He gave us 'I Want To Learn To Be A Cowboy' and followed this with Slim Whitman's 'Mr. Tingaling'. Thanks Jack.

Then it was time for classical guitar with Alex Okon
who played  a tune by Jose Farrier and then club favourite, 'La Paloma'.

Jim Wigfield has been busy again! His first was 'Ocean Blue', a new self-penned song. He followed this with his amusing song called 'Personal Hygiene' (don't forget "Granny always washed between her toes")!

5
Closing the first half was Tony Hamblin who sang a song with a very sad tale 'Betsy The Serving Maid'.

Listen

6
Dave Anderson started the second part of the night in great form with two self-penned numbers 'Storyteller' and 'Legacy' finishing with the Ewen Carruthers song 'The Power'. Beautiful.

To close the evening for us we had an extended set from Jo and Jon. With some fine singing and guitar playing they did a selection of mostly their own songs - 'Monsoon', 'Garden Stones', 'The Fairest Of All Yarrow', 'Early Morning Melodies', 'Wreckers Tide', 'Marty', 'Beautiful World' and 'River Song'. To shouts of more they farewelled with the spirited 'The Queen Of Singapore' (something about cross dressing!). We wish them good luck in New Zealand.

6 floor spots, 21 songs including extended set from Jo and Jon
and all  for only £1 (remember, 'It's In The Bag').

Don't forget: Cathryn Craig and Brian Willoughby will be the Special Guests
at Ashington Folk Club on Thursday 15 March 2007
Get your tickets now !
You can buy them on-line from our website - click here
