15th June 2006
We arrived at
the Club to find that the portable stage was locked away in the cupboard and no
key was to be found! So... for the first time we used the big stage which looked
quite impressive with the array of sound equipment.
The evening was very reminiscent of this time last year when George
Rosenthal was in the Spotlight - warm and sultry and busy! It was great to see
so many of you there in support - keep it up!
We
had to limit some of the second half floor spots to one song or tune but no-one
seemed to mind because with the
Spotlight this evening on singer Pat Yeowart, with great guitar accompaniment
from Kevin, everyone enjoyed a great evenings entertainment.
You can Listen
to an mp3 Soundbite of each performer, and...

Among the forest of microphones
Northumbrian piper

Jim Wigfield, energetically
jumped up onto the high stage and sang two self-penned songs 'Cumulus'
and, then especially for Pat, 'My Northumberland'. |

Spotlight
Pat Yeowart and Kevin
began their set with Eric Andersons' 'Thirsty Boots' following on with
Janis Ian's 'At 17'. Then the Suzy Bogguss song 'Someday Soon'. Next,
and first time out, was Richard Thompson's 'Dimming of The Day'. Then,
dedicated to her husband Doug, was 'We're Not Over Yet'. It was back
to Janis Ian for 'Jessie' and then a Jackson Browne number 'Fountain
of Sorrow'. Next was 'Song Of Bernadette' they closed a great
first half with the classic 'The Nearness Of You'. |
|
|
6
Beginning the second half was Kevin Robinson,
very ably accompanied on guitar by
John Campbell. They gave us 'House Of The Rising
Sun' and 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door'. |
|
|
|
|
7
Next was Dave
Donohoe
who gave us his own take on Ralph McTell's beautiful song 'From Claire
To Here'. |
|
|
|
8
Ann Sessoms, in great form
as usual, played two tunesets - 'Tweedside/On The Fiddle' and then a
couple of hornpipes. |
|
|
9 With borrowed guitar it was the
turn of
Alex Okon who
played 'La Paloma'. |
|
|
10
It was good to see
Neil Ethair
at the club again. He sang a very spirited self-penned song
called 'Do You Remember?' |

Spotlight
Returning to the stage for their second set
Pat Yeowart and Kevin
began with 'Sing One For Sister' and then, always a Club
favourite, 'Summertime'. They followed these with 'September In
The Rain' 'Stormy Weather' and 'Cry Me A River'. The well known
Joan Baez song 'Diamonds & Rust' was next and they finished the set
with 'Lover Man'. To shouts for 'more' they gave us 'Don't It Make My
Brown Eyes Blue'. But still there were shouts for 'more' and we were
treated to Sandy Denny's 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes'. Phew! What a
night! Thanks Pat and Kevin. |
