1st June 2006

It was a warm and balmy night - it was half term and we had half the people, and half the time we had gremlins, so we only got half the soundclips! Apologies to the performers without soundclips - come back again and we'll get you next time!

It was the quietest night for some time, but nevertheless a good night's entertainment and it gave us a chance to hear more from those who came to play.

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of most performers.

Starting off the night  were your genial hosts
, jiva, who sang their self-penned  'Dream On' followed by Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice It's Alright'. Thanks to Ann for taking the photo!

Next was Derek Greenacre who in the first spot played 'Mississippi Blues' and  his own 'Monkey Bounce'. For his second spot we were treated to Mississippi John Hurt's 'Buck Dance' and the Elizabeth Cotton tune 'Vestapol'.

It was good to see Sue Bardsley back at the club. She sang 'Rock Salt And Nails' and 'Black Is The Colour' for her first spot and in her second Eliza Gilkeson's 'On The Borderline' finishing with 'Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You'.

In blues mood Kevin played 'Kelly's Blues' and 'Saturday Night Blues' (which he re-christened to 'Thursday Night Blues' as it was so quiet!)
5 & 13
Two new self-penned numbers from
Ben Yeowart in his first spot with 'Black As Night' and, complete with harmonica, 'Looking For The Day'. For his second spot he did 'Tell Me Don't You Want Me to Go' - finishing with a theatrical fade out as he walked out of the room still playing!

Closing the first half was
Pat Yeowart & Kevin with 'Someday Soon' and 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue'. In the second half we had 'Summertime' and 'Stormy Weather'.

Next Spotlight...

Pat Yeowart with Kevin

15th June 2006

Be there, or you'll miss a good night

9 acts, 25 songs, tunes and poems - quieter than some, but another great night. Get yourself along... for less than the price of a pint you can't go wrong.

Singers, Musicians & Poets nights are held on the 1st Thursday of every month, and there's more of the same but with extended Spotlight sets on the 3rd Thursday.

Half term blues? Not a bit...
A whole good night at Ashington Folk Club!
