4th May 2006

It was warm, sultry, busy and it was a great night! We had a trio of pipers with newcomers to the club Pipers Weird. There was also some great blues, country, classical and classics. Wow!

You can Listen to an mp3 Soundbite of each performer.

1
Back from his holidays Jim Wigfield began the evening with two new songs! The first one, 'Uncle Sven Goran' laments the woes of the England Football manager and the second 'Changing The World' is a commentary on what we are doing to the world.

2
Derek Greenacre (of Jane's Alley) played a self written piece 'Cup-Cake Rag' and then 'Special Rider Blues' by Skip James.

7
Finishing off the first half was Zak with Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight' and his self-penned 'Take What You Want'. He's not bought himself an acoustic guitar yet!

Listen

8
Opening the second half were first timers to the Club, Pipers Weird. They all play pipes and we were treated to a live
ly set of French tunes and then a Swedish tune. They must be well travelled! Here's hoping they come again.
9
Pat & Kevin were next up and tonight sang Dylan's 'Farewell Angelina' and then the classic 'Lover Man'.

Listen

10
Dave Donohoe playing in open G sang 'Back To The Country' (complete with bottleneck) and then 'Life's Ever Changing Days'.

It was back to the 30s for
John Campbell with his two blues songs. First was Elmore James'  'It Hurts Me Too' and then Robert Johnson's 'Come On In My Kitchen'.

Listen

12
Ben Yeowart began with his self-penned 'Tricks' and he then sang - as you've never heard it before - the Beatles song 'Eleanor Rigby'. Even our MC was lost for words as to how to describe it!
13
Tonight Dave Anderson played two self-penned songs 'I Did It All For Love' and 'Northumberland'. Don't forget, Dave is our next Spotlight on 18th May.

Listen

14
Peter Murphy ended the evening for us with 'Bogie's Bonnie Belle', 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, and 'She Moved Through The Fair'. What we didn't know was this may be his last time at Ashington! He's on the move down to Cheshire. He will be sorely missed! Good luck Peter.

Another great night...
