5th May 2005

Word is clearly spreading - we had two new performers tonight who have not played at Ashington since jiva took over the reins. Always good to see new faces - and old ones as well!

It was election night but that didn't put people off coming to the Club and we all had a good time, so much so that there was a little too much gossiping going on while performers were on... it can be off-putting and detracts from the great music on offer.

1
Surprise, surprise -
jiva began the evening with the Allan Taylor song 'Back Again' and followed this with their favourite love song, Linda Thompson's 'No Telling' - we'll get you dancing yet!
2
Next up was Jim Wigfield, who began with 'Cumulus', his song about clouds Then a new song about personal hygiene called  'Granny Always Washed Between Her Toes'.
3
Tony Hamblin
was in fine singing voice with a couple of songs about the sea. Firstly 'Go To Sea Once More' and then 'Admiral Benbow'.
4
Regular Jack Hakin was back with more Boxcar Willie, this time 'Waiting For A Train'. He then sang the Billie Jo Spears country hit, 'Blanket On The Ground'.
5
Our first newcomer of the evening was Vince. He gave a good performance of the David Crosby song 'Almost Cut My Hair'. He then played an instrumental piece, the Irish tune, 'The Lark In The Clear Air'. Much enjoyed by all.
6
John Campbell
is now singing rock! His first song was the Pete Townsend song 'We Won't Get Fooled Again' but he then found his way back to Folk with Bob Dylan's 'Throw It All Away'.
7
In good voice again Pat Yeowart  sang Jackson Browne's 'Fountain Of Sorrow'. She then finished the first half with 'Stormy Weather'.
8
Mick, our next newcomer, kicked off the second half with two of his own songs, 'Bound For Glory' and 'There's A Man He's A Coming'. Great to see you - come back again.
9
It's been a few weeks since we've had a poem from Ann Lunam-Cowan. She was on form and had us all joining in with the actions (pat-a-cake) to her poem 'My Mother Said'.
10
Kevin Robinson and Dave Donohoe were next with the Bob Dylan standard 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' followed by Kevin's own song, 'Easy Living'.
11
Two tunesets from Lynn & Rob
provided our Northumbrian pipes 'fix' with 'Ally's Tune' & 'The Morpeth Lasses' followed by 'Young Scottie' & 'The Fiery Clock Face'.
12
On his own tonight (Al-less as Val put it), Pete Cryer was in good voice with 'Lord Franklin' which he followed with the somewhat risqué 'Not Tonight Marie'.
13
Alex Okon was in great form with J S Bach's 'Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring' which he followed with the 'Habanera' from Bizet's Carmen. Fatherhood obviously agrees with him.
14
Neil
was back with a new guitar! (A Dean electro-acoustic.) He sang two of his own compositions, 'Now It Is Over' and 'By Midnight I Should Be On My Way'.
15
The evening came to an end with two songs from Ben Yeowart
- 'Keep Your Hand On That Plough' and then a great 12 bar version of Dylan's 'Brand New Leopardskin Pill Box Hat'.

New feature - 'Were You There?'
